The new system to alleviate the impact of DDoS attacks caused quite a stir over the weekend as many players experienced connection issues ranging from lag and freezes to smaller kicks and even mass kicks. Therefore, we would like to clarify some misunderstandings concerning the effectiveness of this new measure.

In the corresponding news article, we tried to give you a general idea about how this measure works, and mentioned certain conditions which need to be met for the system to kick in. In order to trigger, it needs to identify a PvE death as a direct consequence of exceptional connection issues such as heavy DDoS attacks. Please understand, though, that we cannot provide you with accurate information about the thresholds for these conditions.
We apologise for not putting more emphasis on this in our last news article which obviously led some players to believe that the system works for any PvE death caused by connection issues such as freezes or lag, which may precede a DDoS attack but can also result from other network issues.
Therefore, we would like to point out again that the system only reacts if certain conditions are met, so it cannot provide complete safety in every precarious situation due to connection problems.

Of course, we have been monitoring the situation and the effects of the new system over the weekend. We will use this data to work on fine-tuning the new system in order to increase its effectiveness. Please note, though, that even with tweaks it will not be possible to make it work for every death that might be related to connection issues. Hence, we will also continue to work on further ways and means to improve the situation.
